My other project "in the works"

In addition to knitting away my every spare moment (ok...and a few I should be spending on studying & housework!), I'm also learning how to spin my own yarn. I'm learning on a homemade drop spindle right now. I really would like to have a spinning wheel, but I can't afford one right now. I think that I will challenge myself, maybe with a weight loss goal, and the spinning wheel will be my reward...hmmm...I think I've found my weight-loss success plan!

Other socks I've made

This is the second pair of socks I made. I used Sirdar's Denim Sport yarn. They are so soft! I'm giving them away for Christmas, too. I also made a pair of socks using Lionbrand's Wool-ease - I haven't uploaded the picture I took of those yet. I need to make another pair of those...they are so warm & feel so good on my feet! I've currently got another pair of socks OTN (on the needles). I'm using Bernat's Sox yarn for them, and I really like them. I have someone in mind for those as a Christmas present, too. I'm very addicted to knitting overall, but I really like knitting socks!

First pair of socks

This is my first ever pair of socks. I can't find the yarn label, so I'm not sure what I used. I know I used US 2 double-pointed needles - talk about something that feels like toothpicks in your hands! LOL I'm giving these away for Christmas, too. :)

Toboggan hat

This is a picture of one of the wool toboggans that I've knit. I used Galway black 100% wool yarn. This is the second one I've's a Christmas gift for someone. The other one I made for my hubby.

Hooded Sweater

I've made one of these for me and one for Rich. His didn't turn out quite as well because I didn't check the pattern enough when I was getting close to being done with the front part...I made it too long. So now I have to go back and knit some more ribbing on the bottom. I'll try to remember to take a picture of his later on. Both were knitted with Lionbrand's Homespun yarn. Cheyenne is making one for herself, and I have yarn to make Dakota one as soon as I get Christmas and baby stuff for upcoming family members out of the way.

Butterfly Shawl

And here is a picture of the Butterfly Shawl that I made. It's one of my favorites so far. It's not the warmest, but it's very beautiful. It's made with two yarns held together. Berroco's Glace and Plymouth's EROS. There is another yarn that I used at the bottom to finish off the stitches (a crocheted border to bind of the knitted stitches, but I can't find the label for it right now. The pattern I used called for a 5-chain stitch, but I used a 10-chain...I like how it turned out.

Finally...a minute to post pictures are a ton of pictures of the things I've knitted so far in my first year of least the ones I still have. I've given a few things away that I didn't get pictures of first. This one is a picture of the poncho I knitted - one of my very first projects. I used Paton's "Twister" in Blueberry Twist. It's great for Spring & Fall...those "in-between" weather days!

Trying to find time to knit!

Since I've last updated the blog, I've taken a drop spindle class to learn how to spin my own yarn the old-fashioned way & loved it! Now I want a spinning wheel, though! ...maybe after the first of the year. I'm trying to get my statistics homework & project done right now so that I can work on my knitting projects. I've knitted the girls some socks for Christmas...working on a hat for my father-in-law's about finished. I'll try and remember to take a picture of it for posting, as well as the other items I've finished that I still have in my possession.

Well, back to the statistics, so I can get it over with and KNIT!!!

Baby Blanket

I knitted a baby blanket for Mindy Conrad...used the diagonal baby blanket pattern found for free on the Lion Brand website. It turned out beautifully....but I forgot to take a picture of it before I delivered it ...I need to start remembering that better!

I'm still working on some blue and white socks...a denim yarn that I got from Knitty Paws. Looking forward to Body Shop Knit Night and my Drop-Spindle class this week! :)
